The museum Son Marroig, whose origins date back to the 16th century, was one of the properties that Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria acquired after falling in love with the northern Mallorcan coast.
The Archduke bought the possession at the end of the 19th century along with most of the land and estates between Valldemossa and Deià. During his stay, he undertook various reforms, giving the house a more sophisticated air and a new life for the gardens. Although undoubtedly his greatest contribution was the famous and idyllic Carrara marble temple.
